This is a lovely gesture and while families do not expect gifts nor should you feel obliged, usually by the end of one week many students feel close and connected to their families and want to extend a token of appreciation. We recommend gifts particular to your area of the world, for example: a mug,
magnet, or deck of cards that shows a famous landmark in your town. Other popular gifts include: kitchen items like tea towels or pot holders and chocolates or candy. Host mothers tend to really like scented lotions and gels and children like games or toys you can find at your local Dollar Store. If you cannot decide what to bring (or do not have room in your suitcase), a small thank you card is also acceptable.
