Which options do I have?
CPI offers students and companions various accommodation options, this taking into consideration individual needs -- from local host family to apartments; or a combination or both -- whether in Heredia, Monteverde or Flamingo.
All CPI accommodations run from Sunday through Sunday. Due to the limited availability, we recommend booking in advance.
Homestay
The perfect complement to Spanish classes affording first-hand insight into the Costa Rican culture. Whether young couples without children, couples with children (all ages), or older couples with grown children (who are no longer at home but visit), host families are patient and will help you to learn Spanish. Host families are carefully chosen and have a special interest in welcoming students as part of their family.
The homestay family provides students with a private room, laundry service and breakfast & dinner on a daily basis. The provided meals are the same as shared by all family members, typical Costa Rican fare. Special dietary requests are possible with advanced notice.
Dependent on the season and availability, CPI may place 1 or 2 students not traveling together in each family, each student with his/her own bedroom. Couples and families may request the same homestay.
While the standard of living in Costa Rica differs from that of North America and Europe, the homestay experience is unique, and the benefit of language acquisition and cultural awareness outweighs any challenge or discomfort. In fact, quite often students rank the host family interaction, with meaningful connections, as their favorite part of the CPI experience.

Homestay Monteverde
Host families are located in the small neighborhoods around the CPI Monteverde campus, expanding toward and a bit beyond the quaint town center of Santa Elena. Walking distances may vary from 10 to 30 minutes to CPI Monteverde. This region is one of Costa
Rica´s top destinations, so you can enjoy breathtaking landscapes and forest views along the road to campus; you will find both locals and tourists, alike, walking to and from their destination. Families have expansive experience receiving students, but since the community is rural, houses tend to be smaller and a bit more simple in comparison with those in the Central Valley.
Homestay Flamingo
The school is in Flamingo, one of the most popular beaches in Costa Rica, is surrounded by hotels and condos catering to tourists. To achieve the Tico experience, the homestay option is available in the small towns surrounded Flamingo, such as: Potrero, Brasilito, and Huacas. The average distance by car is between 20 to 30 minutes, so the school offers free transportation to/from campus for students staying with families.
It is important to highlight that many of the host families are not living right next to the beach and since communities are rural, houses tend to be smaller and more simple in comparison with those in the Central Valley.
Homestay Heredia
Families are in the small city of San Joaquin de Flores, 10 to 20 minutes walking distance from CPI Heredia. The location is very convenient due the fact that the San Jose International Airport (SJO) is only 15 minutes away and San Joaquín has easy access to the main cities of Heredia, Alajuela, and the capital city, San Jose. The town is quiet and safe; inhabitants are middle class, maintaining Tico traditions and culture
Private Accommodation
If you prefer, you may also stay in fully furnished apartments, private rooms, villas, or houses the entire time; if of interest, you can combine the homestay with these alternatives, varying your choice at each campus. Other services and amenities, such as: WIFI, parking, cable, TV, cleaning, laundry, breakfast, Front Desk attention and daily transportation to CPI, are also included; you can be accompanied by a family member whether also studying or not taking classes.

Guest facilities at Casas del Toro Monteverde:
- Modern design with convenient location (near to CPI, restaurants, and tourist attractions).
- Fully furnished, includes: hot water, T.V., full bathroom, bedding and towels, closet, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, blow dryer, and ceiling fan, safety deposit boxes.
- All units are cleaned daily
- Laundry area (self-service, one bag once a week, detergent not included).

- Meals are not included

- Mini Market (basic items: drinks and snacks, wine, beer).
- Private and double rooms have a small fridge and coffee maker and include a light breakfast during high season.
- Apartments, villas and studios have fully equipped kitchen with electric stove, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker/dining space these do NOT include breakfast.
- Daily room cleaning service
