Be a digital nomad in Costa Rica and learn Spanish
Costa Rica / 4 December 20232 minutes

Costa Rica is small in size but shines large in the areas of natural and cultural attractions. Exploring this gem takes time, so what better way to do so than ‘living as a local’?

Last year, the country approved a law extending a new immigration category for remote foreign workers to remain in Costa Rica for up to two years, enjoying immigration and tax benefits while working digitally.

We would also add one more advantage: learn Spanish -- or improve your skills!

How?

According to this law, if you want to come to the country as a digital nomad, you must have a minimum income from abroad of US$3,000 per month, or US$4,000 if you move with your family; you must also obtain health insurance.

To apply for this non-resident visa under the remote service provider subcategory, you must fill out a form and provide the required information at: https://www.racsa.go.cr/servicios/soluciones-digitales/tramiteya/#

The request can be made on-site in Costa Rica if you are still within the days of legal stay granted at the time of entry or from the country of residence. Upon completing the documentation, authorities have 15 calendar days to resolve your request.

Some benefits include exemption from income taxes and import tariffs on goods related to the work you undertake from Costa Rica; in addition, you will not be a tax resident for up to two years.

Another great advantage is the opportunity to study Spanish with CPI by choosing the type of program that best suits your pace, interests, and budget -- whether as an individual, a couple or as a family. You can also take online classes while preparing for your trip to the country.
