CEFR: Pre-A1 to A1

ACTFL: Novice Low to Novice Mid

Duration: 1–2 weeks on average

Designed for students with little or no previous experience in Spanish, this level introduces essential vocabulary, pronunciation, and basic communication skills for everyday situations. Students learn to exchange simple personal information, ask and answer basic questions, and interact using memorized and practiced expressions in familiar contexts.

Students are introduced to present tense forms, regular past tense forms, and the periphrastic future to communicate simple ideas related to routines, daily activities, and immediate needs.

ACTFL: Novice Mid

Duration: 1–2 weeks on average

At this level, students expand their ability to communicate in familiar everyday situations using simple sentences and increased vocabulary. Learners improve their ability to describe people, places, routines, and preferences, as well as give and follow basic instructions and directions.

Students also begin making simple comparisons and expressing opinions and preferences with greater confidence.

CEFR: A2

ACTFL: Novice High

Duration: 1–2 weeks on average

At the Advanced Beginner level, students communicate more independently in familiar contexts and participate in simple conversations using connected sentences and expanded vocabulary. Learners can describe experiences, narrate simple past events using practiced structures, and discuss daily activities in different time frames.

Students are introduced to and practice the preterite and imperfect tenses, including basic contrasts between completed and habitual past actions, while continuing to develop fluency, accuracy, and vocabulary.

CEFR: B1 / approaching B1+

ACTFL: Intermediate Low

Duration: 1–2 weeks on average

At this level, students communicate with greater independence using expanded vocabulary and a wider range of verb tenses, including compound forms. Learners discuss experiences in multiple time frames, improve comprehension through authentic texts and conversations, and express ideas with increased precision and confidence.

CEFR: B1+ / approaching B2

ACTFL: Intermediate Mid

Duration: 2–3 weeks on average

At the Intermediate level, students strengthen their ability to narrate, describe, make comparisons, and express opinions using connected sentences and increasingly complex structures. Learners improve spoken and written communication through discussions, presentations, and authentic materials on cultural and contemporary topics.

CEFR: B2

ACTFL: Intermediate Mid to Intermediate High

Duration: 2–3 weeks on average

At the Advanced Intermediate level, students communicate with greater fluency and flexibility in a variety of contexts. Learners continue developing accuracy and complexity through advanced grammatical structures, expanded use of the subjunctive, and more sophisticated oral and written expression.

CEFR: B2+ / approaching C1

ACTFL: Intermediate High

Duration: 2–3 weeks on average

At this level, students communicate with increased fluency and confidence in extended conversations on a wide range of familiar and unfamiliar topics. Learners improve their ability to understand authentic materials, including literature, films, and conversations involving different accents and dialects.

CEFR: C1

ACTFL: Advanced Low

Duration: 2–3 weeks on average

At the Intermediate Advanced level, students maintain conversations on a broad range of topics with greater precision, flexibility, and spontaneity. Learners can react appropriately in unexpected situations, support opinions more effectively, and communicate ideas clearly with reduced influence from their native language.

CEFR: High C1 / approaching C2

ACTFL: Advanced Mid to Advanced High

Duration: 2–3 weeks on average

At the Advanced level, students communicate with a high degree of fluency, accuracy, and sophistication in both spoken and written Spanish. Learners discuss complex and abstract topics, support and defend opinions, and demonstrate strong control of verbal structures across multiple time frames.

Students also develop deeper comprehension of authentic media, literature, humor, idiomatic language, and cultural references from across the Spanish-speaking world.

CEFR: C2 / Professional Proficiency

ACTFL: Advanced High to Superior

Duration: 18+ weeks

To achieve and maintain the superior level is a timeless goal! At the Superior level, students communicate with a high degree of fluency, precision, and sophistication across a wide range of academic, professional, and social contexts. Learners can discuss and support complex ideas, interpret nuanced meaning, and adapt language appropriately to different situations and audiences.

Students demonstrate advanced comprehension of authentic materials, including literature, films, television, music, and professional discourse, while producing detailed oral and written communication on both abstract and concrete topics with a high level of accuracy and flexibility.
