Standard Spanish Program
CPI’s mission is Spanish immersion meaning we are here to serve students of all ages and levels who wish to embark upon an adventure, experience another culture, and learn Spanish as a second language. The school prides itself on its flexible schedules, personalized classes with only 4 students per class maximum, and 3 beautiful campuses.
As language and culture are intrinsically linked, and immersion is the best way to learn Spanish, our most popular and most recommended accommodation is homestay. All of the host families are carefully screened and all have an interest in welcoming students as a part of the family. To find out more about our host families, click here. Group Classes
CPI offers Spanish classes of 4 hours per day. The MAXIMUM CLASS SIZE IS 4 STUDENTS in order to provide each student the greatest level of interaction with other students as well as personalized attention from the professor.
Classes begin every Monday and are held from Monday to Friday for all Spanish levels; you may study from one week to however many weeks you wish.
Intensive Course
The program of 4 hours per day is designed to allow adequate time to undertake activities outside of the classroom and is organized as follows:
- 08:00 - Class begins
- 08:00 - 10:00 Class time
- 10:00 - 10:20 Coffee break
- 10:20 - 12:00 Class time
- 12:00 - Class ends
*Please note that during the high season (June-July), students may study in the morning or afternoon depending on the number of students enrolled and at the discretion of the administration; this is done in order to provide you with the best service possible.
In the case that your classes are scheduled for the afternoon, you will have a 13:00 start, with a break between 15:00 - 15:20 and your classes will finish at 17:00. In the event of this schedule, excursions will be available in the mornings and the return transportation from CPI will be available at 17:00.
Private Classes
CPI also offers one-on-one lessons in which a student receives more personal attention and studies in greater detail a specific topic of choice. In these private classes, one may learn the specialized Spanish and terminology for such themes as: business, social work, law enforcement, politics, plant species, nutrition, information technology, petroleum, education, ecology/environment, sports, economy and medicine.
CPI provides the essential vocabulary materials, with English to Spanish translations, and practical situations are acted out to give the student the chance to use the Spanish for their respective professional field.
The CPI Academic Coordinator tests your level through both a written on-line exam and a conversation on-site once in Costa Rica.
One-on-one lessons can be added to group classes; for example, group classes in the morning and private classes in the afternoon; or a student may use the whole day for private lessons. For the latter, please note that private lessons during the high season (June-July) may be taken in the afternoon session only.
For foreigners living in Costa Rica who decide to study after work we offer a 20 hour package with a flexible schedule.
